Treo650 BT Hotsync
« on: October 22, 2005, 10:46:14 PM »

I just wanna share how I setup the BT Hotsync between my Treo650 & my Dell Inspiron 600m (or Dell Latitude D600).

1. Create a virtual serial port (eg. COM4) [Right click the BT icon > Advanced Configuration;
    Look at Bluetooth Serial Port - I set it as unsecured]
2. Using my Treo650, I just run the BT Hotsync Wizard (make sure to follow it closely)
3. Make sure 'Local' is selected in the Hotsync Manager & choose the appropriate COM port (eg. COM4)

Then just hotsync using the new created Connection Setup (if you followed the wizard correctly).

That's all. To make the sync faster, I disable the Backup sync (under Hotsync Manager>Custom).

Sorry no pic (yet).

It's a great way to sync when on the go - no need to bring your cables along. Otherwise I prefer to sync on the cradle (I've got the el-cheapo US$22 Brando cradle) since I like to keep it topped up charge-wise. How do you find the speed when syncing via BT?

My experience with syncing the T5 using BT was that it was still too slow. Limited to serial speeds, 115Kbps if I'm not mistaken.

Like ebernie said...slow...extremely slow. But it is really a hasle (or too lazy) to get the cable.... Cheesy I am yet to buy a cradle USD25 is not cheap but definitely cheaper than getting a palmone cradle.
