Prayer Minder with Azan for PalmOS
« on: October 10, 2005, 07:42:12 PM »

Just to continue a discussion from
http://old.palmx.org/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=495

You can have azan as your alarm on your pda if you want to;

Use Salat Schedule v1.2 or later. ( http://www.freewarepalm.com/religion/salatschedule.shtml )
Click on the Alarm menu, and select Azan as your alarm. But for it to work, you need to have the azan.mp3.pdb (available with the app) installed in your internal memory, along with Pocket Tunes.

Saw it on Taufik's Treo650 just now.

As for the azan, I would suggest that you download any mp3 files of any azan that you like, rename it to azan.mp3.pdb and install it in your PDA and see if it works. Like this, maybe we can use a longer azan kut?Huh??

Bukan ke kena pakai pTune for the azan? Then you can have the complete azan if you wish...in mp3.

The above two images show the type of file of azan.mp3.pdb which comes with Salat Schedule. You can see that it is "streaming" type and converted by the author.

The above two images show the type of file of azan.mp3.pdb which is really an mp3 file. You can see that it wont work.

If you take any mp3 file and try to put in the handheld, it wont work because it is not the streaming type.

Question - what application can we use to convert the mp3 of a full azan to become a pdb file (streaming)?

Sudah jumpa. PAR

Yes! However, the internal memory of Palm devices can only store PDB files. So, in order to store a file in internal memory, you need to convert the media file to such a PDB file. The conversion can be done using the par utility available below.

Then type the following command: (in a DOS-window and with par in the path)

par c -a stream Azan.pdb Azan.mp3 strm Tamr Azan.mp3

http://www.djw.org/product/palm/par/

Success!!!!!!

The file is too big.
1.2mb

I am looking for a smaller file to convert right now. Found one yesterday but I deleted it in frustration. Now looking for it again.

baru nak send msg yg ada azan baru (versi Mekah), hang dah reply dah Smiley

what I did was to take a 5mb version of the azan and make it smaller using CDEX. I reduced the bitrate to the lowest possible, convert to mono and reduced the output rate. I had to reduce the quality to make the size smaller.
